N. Millie Cruz, R.T. (M) founded Radiography Image Quality Consultants (RIQC) in Los Angeles, California in 2005. Formerly a Senior Clinical Education Specialist for Philips Medical Systems, NA, she traveled throughout the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean performing application training for computed radiography ( CR ) and Digital Radiography ( DR ), honing her skills as one of the most competent troubleshooters/quality specialists in the industry.

Starting with film mammography in the 1970s at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she worked with pioneer mammographer Ruth E. Snyder, MD, researching and testing various breast cancer detection devices including Specialized Mammography X-ray Systems, Lo-Dose Film/Screen combinations, Xero-Radiography, Electron Radiography, and various Film Processing methods. She also developed various mammographic positions for the challenging patient which are now used throughout North America. Ms. Cruz was also actively involved with the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Medical Physics Department in their efforts to obtain high quality mammography with low dose radiation.

In 1984 Ms. Cruz became a C.T. and Digital Angiography Specialist at MSKCC.

In the 1991 she moved to California to serve as the technical director and co-coordinator, along with mammography expert Dr. John G. Pearce, of the Mammography Education Program at the USC School of Medicine, Department of Radiology. Concurrently, Ms. Cruz served as Mammography Quality Consultant at the USC Kenneth Norris Cancer Center (1991–2002). The USC Mammography Education Program successfully ran from 1993 to 1997 with attendees from all over the U.S., Australia, Guam, Panama and Costa Rica.

Ms. Cruz has had extensive experience restructuring Mammography Q.C. Programs in the office setting, small hospitals, and in large teaching and tertiary referral centers. An accomplished educator, she has been instrumental in the establishment of mammography training programs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City, and at USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. She participates in outreach programs bringing mammography services to the underprivileged and to international locations such as Bolivia.

Ms. Cruz has published in various medical journals, lectured in a number of radiologic technologists’ seminars and at USC Radiology Residents Conferences.

As senior consultant for RIQC, Ms. Cruz and her colleagues offer on-site image quality troubleshooting for mammography, CR and DR, specializing in Philips DR and CR Systems and as well as others. She and her colleagues also present on-site conference-style lectures and classroom-style theory lessons. Hands-on mammography positioning is available, as is hands-on DR and CR training, teaching how to combine positioning, AEC and pre-processing in order to produce the best image quality.
